According to Jim Recap: Dana Gets Fired
When Dana hires Jim to redo her office, she gets more than she bargained for, in more ways than one - Jim not only works on updating Dana's office, but when her boss, Mr. Bingham (Patrick Cassidy), comes in and tells her off, he works him over as well. Unfortunately, that doesn't go over so well. I guess he just doesn't like being told off by a construction worker that he doesn't even know.
After Jim gets home and tells Cheryl, she is proud of Jim that he spoke gently to the man, but wonders just what happened, as she expects something to come out of it, like he exploded or beat him up or something, but in the end, she thinks it went very well - until Dana comes in crying and says that she got fired.
To his credit, Jim didn't know that at the time, and he was just trying to help.
In the end, it works out, because though Dana was at her job (she works in advertising, in case you didn't know - or she did, anyway) for eight years and at first is very stressed about losing the job, she then feels like a weight has lifted off of her shoulders and then she can do anything. For now, she wants to be a traffic reporter in a helicopter, which may or may not work out.
Meanwhile, Jim and Andy head back to the office and brick up the door of the boss, which is a great bit - the expression on his face is priceless when he opens the door after telling them off, only to be faced with a wall of bricks. Sweet!
