Oh, Wow! It’s Like One of Those Things You See on TV!

After the relatively close departure times of last week’s leg (to Ulan Bator, Mongolia), it was unlikely that there wouldn’t be some spreading out of the teams, and that is definitely the case. First-place finishers Peter and Sarah were only a few minutes ahead of second place team Tyler and James, but nearly two hours separated the front of the pack from the back. However, a bottleneck at a local travel agent and an apparent dearth of flights meant everyone was on the same flight to Hanoi, Vietnam and a date with the infamous Hanoi Hilton.

The preview that showed one team (Tom and Terry) getting upset at another team (Dustin and Kandice) was essentially a non-event, as was the one with another team (Duke and Lauren) running out of money. What was interesting is that the clue apparently said that teams were not allowed to beg or to sell anything. I’m curious what they are allowed to do – can they steal? Mug people? Does providing services count as selling, or only the sale of goods? We’ll have to come back to that later in the race.

Or learning that his wife and daughter seem the same, but something isn’t right about them. Or any of dozens of other small changes that simply can’t be explained. It’s as if he’s in the right place, but just a few minor things have been changed along the way.

When Cheryl asks Jim to play with the girls while she fixes dinner, he ends up on the pogo stick, which in turns means he hurts himself. Then they go to the doctor, who prescribes some pills for him – but the doctor wants to make sure that the pills don’t interfere with the ones that Jim is taking for his high blood pressure. This is a problem because Jim didn’t tell Cheryl about his high blood pressure or the pills that he was taking (by grinding them up and putting them in his beer).

According to Jim Recap: Racquetball

As Jim and Andy discover both that baby food is pretty good and that pizza doesn’t blend well, Cheryl and Dana return from their workout, which leads inevitably to one thing – that Jim and Cheryl have another unresolved discussion. This time it’s a racuetball game. According to Cheryl, she beat Jim. According to Jim, he threw the game because he didn’t want Cheryl to get upset. And, well, he wanted things to go well that night.

There’s only one thing to do: Rematch.
