Jericho Recap: Long Live the Mayor
Gray Anderson returns to Jericho with news of the outside world - mostly that it's not a pretty site. What he has seen is that things are rough. He himself looks like he's a victim of radiation poisoning, but as the episode goes on, it looks like perhaps he's just been badly sunburned.
Meanwhile, Jake tries to broker a deal with Jonah - who appears to be the "he" spoken of by Mitch last week in 9:02, but more importantly, he's also the father of Emily (and the brother of Chris, who Jake is widely credited with causing the death of many years before). The plot thickens.
Jake is willing to give Jonah a chance, especially because Jonah has a good setup outside of town and can get some things that no one else can - so he offers to trade Mitch for the rest of the food and an agreement to stay out of town. But the newly returned Gray quickly boycotts that plan, leaving Jake high and dry and only serving to get Jonah mad, which probably isn't the best idea. When he's stood up, Jonah's men break Mitch out of jail.
Gray does serve one useful purpose, however, he returns with the news that New York City was spared. It turns out that the blasts were not sent by missile - New York found a van with the explosives, and that's why they didn't go off. I guess all that paranoia may be good after all.
This is good news for Skylar, as it means that her parents may be alive, but it is also bad news, as she traded an antique jewelery box for some diet soda and now she can't get it back. Dale, however, comes to her rescue (again) and gets the box back - though he loses his job at the supermarket in the process by standing up to Gracie Leigh. It's about time someone did.
Meanwhile, the sparks continue to fly between Stanley and Mimi, and Stanley tries to comfort her as Gray confirms that Washington DC was destroyed, along with everything she knew, but she'll have none of that.
The story of the enigmatic Mr. Hawkins continues to unfold as well, as we hear about his family and their own Washington tales. No word on how they came to be in Jericho, but it appears that they came from Washington. We also find out that he and his wife were separated and he went and picked her up to save her. Her boyfriend, however, was apparently not so lucky.
Finally, Jake and Eric head out to get their dad some medication - the antibiotics that he has been taking aren't doing the job and he's going to need something stronger if he's going to survive, so they hit the road. As they leave, Emily returns to town after talking with her estranged dad (that's Jonah). It seems that they've reached an uneasy truce for the time being. We'll see what happens.
