Lost Recap: The Cost of Living
Mr. Eko has a vision that takes him back to his childhood, when he recalls breaking into steal some food for his brother Yemi who was hungry - not the first time we have seen Eko sin for his brother (The 23rd Psalm). When Eko is taken to the church to confess, he does not, because he feels that what he did was help his brother, and that he would not be judged for that. When he comes around, he heads off into the jungle to search for the plane, and his brother's body.
The rest of the survivors get a group together to head to the Pearl station, which coincidentally is there at the plane wreckage (Question Mark), Locke knows that by heading there, he will kill two birds with one stone - find the station and find Eko.
The plan is to get to the station and see if they can use the terminals there to communicate with any other stations and find Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Unfortunately when they get there, all the cables seem to be wired one-way (in). They do, however, manage to pick up a signal from another station with a previously unseen image of someone wearing a patch. When he notices he's being watched, he grabs the camera and kills the image. Spooky.
As the other survivors are in the hatch, Eko goes back to his past and recalls how he killed some predators in his native land, which he did to help the people get their vaccines. But that made them board up the church, fearing that it had been defiled. This was what caused them to say that he owed Yemi a church, which is what in turn caused him to start building it with Charlie.
However, as everyone is in the hatch, the smoke returns and beats him to a pulp. Locke comes up to see what is going on, only in time to see Eko die. It's a shame, really - I liked Eko a lot. Eko has just one message, saying that everyone there is next. We'll see how that turns out.
Meanwhile, The Others are still working to get Jack to operate on Ben, as it turns out that the x-rays that Jack saw previously are indeed Ben's, and Juliet seems to have something up her sleeves, as she says one thing to Jack's face and another through a video she prepares for Jack with a series of cards that say that they are wanting change. Looks like something interesting will be sure to happen soon.
