Heroes Recap: Chapter Eight: Seven Minutes to Midnight
Mohinder finally puts his father to rest - his physical body anyway - by scattering his ashes in the sea. But the spirit of his father haunts him as he tries to get back to a life of normalcy, and it looks like that isn't going to happen. Mohinder's mother tells him about a sister that he never knew, and a young boy is invading his dreams.
Then the boy turns up in a hidden file in his father's desk (incidentally, when Mohinder places his finger on the map, it lands on Charlotte - interesting!). Looks like we have a new hero on our hands, and Mohinder may not be as removed as he would like.
Meanwhile, Eden continues to try and comfort Isaac as she weans him from the heroin. As she does, she looks over his paintings to try and get a clue of what is happening, and we find out that Claire was adopted by her parents 14 years earlier, after an incident with her actual parents.
Mr. Bennet, as her dad is called for the first time, wants Isaac to finish his paintings so that they can find out how to help her at homecoming. But it seems that Isaac has lost the ability to paint without the drugs, and they don't have the time to teach him how to do it without. So Eden is sent in to get him to shoot up one more time.
An earlier incident is referred to here, so it seems that Eden was on the streets and "rescued" by Claire's dad at some time in the past. That's hanging over her now, so perhaps she'll come around at some point in the future. Not yet, though.
In the meantime, she's looking at a painting of a waitress carrying dishes, and suddenly we're taken to the Burnt Toast Diner in Midland, Texas, where we see that Hiro and Ando are getting awfully close to Odessa (and Claire).
But they stop to get something to eat and run into Charlie, a waitress who a week ago started remembering everything she reads - including Japanese. Hiro and Ando hang out at the diner all day, and so does a sinister character, who we can only assume is Sylar.
Towards the end of the episode, Charlie steps into the back room and as she opens a can, her head is opened and the brain removed - just like Isaac's brain was when Hiro went into the future (in Chapter Two: Don't Look Back). When he sees this, Hiro is not content to sit around, and decides he must go into the past to warn her, and tells Ando to wait for him.
But after some time, Hiro has not returned, and we see Ando sitting nervously. As the camera pans, we notice a picture on the wall with Charlie - and Hiro! So apparently he made it back in time, but he has not yet come back to the current time yet. An interesting development.
Finally, Matt and his wife have reached the point where they have a confrontation about their relationship, and she admits that she has had an affair. About that time, it comes to light that Matt is being suspended as well, but she has little room to talk right then, and he is called away as well.
That's when their captive is going to be taken away by homeland security, so they try and get something out of him. Before he goes, the only thing that they find out is that he has the same mark on his neck as Matt, and they both recognize the Haitian guy and Claire's dad, but that's about all. Then the people from homeland security are there and gone. The next thing they know, the car transporting him has exploded with radiation, just like the house did before. Ah well. It can't always be easy.
No sign of Niki (or D.L., or Micah) in this episode, and we didn't see Peter or Nathan either.
