Close to Home Recap: Shoot to Kill
A body at a plant has everyone worried that there is a sniper on the loose, and little can stir up fear worse than a few random sniper shootings. But when the gun is determined to be a rare one, and the ownership is traced to a former colleague of the victim, things start to come into a bit sharper focus. At least for a while.
It seems that the shooter may have been holding a grudge because he was recently laid off and now was having a tough time selling burger franchises, so perhaps he did in his former boss. But when it's discovered that he's not selling franchises, he is flipping burgers, things get a little more interesting.
Because after talking to the manager of the burger place, it seems that our shooter was a good worker - until the very day that he apparently lost it. So to the security tapes we go. And what should happen but one of the sons of the shooter comes in and sees the old man working the counter, and as teenagers do, they give the guy a hard time - and his son didn't like it. Now there may just be a motive, something to get riled up about.
After finding the gun and verifying the prints were on it, things get a little more confusing. It seems that not only the dad's prints were on the gun, but both of the sons had their prints on there as well. That complicates matters a bit, because there is no clue who did the shooting - the dad because he was mad or one of the sons because he was humiliated.
When the mom is questioned, she said that that day involved a lost dog, and sure enough, the phone records seem to support that - the three men in the family were on their cell phones back and forth all day long. But the cell towers seem to indicate that all three of them were at the plant, and one of the sons says that he was with his dad the whole time. Why talk to him on the phone if you're with him? Now something is getting fishy.
Finally, just when it looks like all the confusion is going to lead everyone to getting off, the mother gets on the stand and gets flustered, and in her confusion she admits that she was scared because she was afraid of her husband being accused of killing his former boss. The only problem is that she wasn't told that. Whoops. After that, it all comes apart.
It seems that the son who was at the burger place shot the ex-coworker, and the rest of the scheme was concocted to make sure that he didn't get in trouble. Now he's going to serve at least 15 years. They were so close too.
