Heroes Recap: Chapter Nine: Homecoming
When the results of the homecoming court are announced and Claire finds out that she is the homecoming queen, everyone is surprised - including her. There is just one problem, and that is that her dad doesn't want her to go out because he doesn't think that they can stop Sylar, since Isaac can't seem to paint enough information for them to get to him in time.
Luckily Zach comes to her rescue (again). It seems he campaigned for her and helped her win the "freak vote" at school, and he comes through with a ladder at her window to help her sneak out and get to homecoming to be able to enjoy her victory too. Of course, things don't always work out that way, but it's the thought that counts.
In New York, the missing painting has arrived, and Simone presents it to Nathan - who seems to be turning into more of a jerk with every moment that passes. Not wanting to change that, he throws paint on the picture, arguably to save Peter, and walks out. When he does, we see someone on the ground in the painting, and it looks like Peter may be about to die.
For better or worse, Simone calls him and has him take a look - but all he can see is the paint that Nathan threw on the image. Luckily, she has a digital scan that came with the painting, and even though he may be looking at his own death, he knows that he needs to do something. Stepping outside, he calls the cell phone that he knows belongs to Hiro, to tell him to be at Union Wells High School (Claire's school) in Odessa. Unfortunately, Ando answers, since Hiro is still missing in time. But he says that he will give Hiro the message.
When Peter finally arrives in Midland, Hiro still has not shown up - but by then, Ando has noticed the picture on the wall, and determined that Hiro went back at least six months in time, as that is when the picture was taken (he could have gone back more, and just showed up there six months later). Charlie is still dead, so obviously he hasn't helped with that, and Hiro is still missing, so we don't know where he is for the moment. Ando wants to wait, so Peter goes to the school by himself.
There he runs into Claire, but doesn't realize that she is the cheerleader - he has instead seen a newspaper clipping of Jackie as the hero, so he's looking for her instead. He heads off in the other direction. When Claire and Jackie get into a pickle in the locker room and start screaming - and Sylar goes after Jackie, apparently killing her - Peter intervenes, saving Claire, but looking like he gets killed himself in a nasty fall off the top of the building.
That's when we get to see that Peter does indeed possess a sort of symbiotic power. He picks up on the power of whoever is around him. In Chapter One: Genesis, he picked up the ability to fly from Peter. In Chapter Six: Better Halves, the ability to paint the future from Isaac. And here, the ability to regenerate from Claire, or he would very likely be dead. As it is, he just gets arrested, presumably for the murder of Jackie - we'll have to wait and see.
As Peter is being arrested, Sylar takes off through the woods, where he is met by Eden and the Haitian. There, Eden tells him to sleep and he just falls over. Unbelievable. This girl that has just been hanging out can just tell people to go to sleep and they do. Very cool.
Meanwhile in the desert, Jessica has found herself a gun (a rather impressive one at that) and is off on a search for D.L. and Micah. Micah manages to talk D.L. into going back for Niki - as opposed to Jessica - though interestingly he mentions Jessica's name, so obviously he knows about her existence. The last we see here is Jessica taking a shot in D.L.'s direction.
Finally, Mohinder meets up with Sanjog Iyer, the boy from his dreams. It seems that the boy has the ability to help you answer questions. But not straightforwardly, like a normal person, no, he asks you more and more questions, to help you understand. In the end, however, the answer is that Mohinder will follow the path that his father did, and try to find the secret to what is happening. As he does, he gets to a password prompt on his father's computer. Entering Shanti, his sister's name, he is presented with a list of names:
- Felipe Acerra, Deceased
- D.L. Hawkins, Las Vegas, NV*

Entries marked with an asterisk (*) are those heroes that we have met thus far. Those not marked are those that we have not met (and are not likely to meet, in the case of those that are deceased). The second column is not very legible, but it does contain some information that is legible:
- David B...
- Leonie..., Deceased
- Adam So...
- Linda T...
- Norman..., Deceased
- Sparrow...
- Amid Ha...
- Michelle...
- Candace...
- Harry F...
- Ethan K...
- Abu Asw...
- Frank C..., Deceased
- Diego V..., Deceased
- Jess Mu..., Deceased
- Sue Lau...
- Pam Gra...?
The second column isn't terribly useful, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of a match for anyone we have seen to date - but perhaps it will come in handy at some point, so I'll leave it up. If anyone else managed to get a better list, or more letters, let me know and I'll update the list.
It appears that many of the players are moving in distinct directions (not physically, though that is possible too). Nathan appears to be picking up certain evil qualities, though he is trying to pass them off as concern for Peter. Jessica certainly has no concern for human life, other than perhaps Micah. Sylar obviously has some agenda, though we don't know what it is yet.
Then there are those on the other side who are selfless in their actions: Definitely Claire, Hiro and Peter, and likely Matt and Mohinder as well. Though it seems like an obvious conclusion that Claire's dad is a bad guy because of his actions, perhaps he is just trying to protect his daughter?
The most interesting thing is to see where this is going. The date with destiny in New York is an obvious destination, but does Heroes have a future beyond the date that is something less than five weeks away? Can it exist without a set endpoint?
