Ghost Whisperer Recap: Giving Up the Ghost
Of all places, a high school baseball game ought to be somewhere that you can go to enjoy a night of relaxation without having to worry about running into a ghost. But not if your name is Melinda. It seems that a rather mean-spirited ghost has taken it upon himself to inhabit the body of the star pitcher for the high school baseball team, just as they head to the playoffs, and that's not doing anyone any good, most notably the pitcher, as it's giving him nose bleeds and making him act out against everyone, which makes it seem like he's on something, which is likely to get him benched.
When Melinda finally figures out that it's the spirit of an old player from the school she starts to learn a little something about what is happening. It seems that he and the current coach of the team were both drafted at the same time, but the ghost was called up to the majors immediately, while the coach languished in the minors for several years. Then when the coach did get the call, the two drove together to their first game - only they never made it, and that seems to be the problem.
Now he has returned to try and capture the glory that he was never able to get when he was so tragically struck down before, and he's latched onto the best talent to come along in some time - perhaps since he himself came through. The only problem is that he may just kill him in the process.
The ghost in this case blames the coach for ruining his career because of his jealousy, when in fact it was the ghost who was driving the car at the time, hopped up on steroids and who knows what, who crashed the car, killing himself. His "friend", the coach actually ended his own career by trying to save the life of his buddy by pulling him from the wreckage.
Once Melinda helps him to see what really happened that night, he realizes that he's ruining the boy's life too. That's also when he realizes that he should have trusted his friend, and that's just what he tells the young athlete to do too, as his coach, and finally the game can continue.
