According to Jim Recap: When You Wish to Be a Star (Part 1)
Dana has finally found herself a new job - as Creative Director for an ad agency. The only problem is that she is trying to kiss up to her new boss, and going a bit overboard in the process. To make matters worse, the new campaign also isn't going well, which is adding some stress to the whole situation. It seems that the family Dana's new boss has chosen for the campaign just doesn't "click".
When Cheryl shows up with Ruby and Gracie, she fits the mold perfectly - a combination falling between Wonder Woman and Kelly McGillis in Witness. Now Dana just has to convince Cheryl to pose as the mom for the advertisement. Fortunately, she has Jim on her side for this one. Mostly because it means they get a free cruise in the deal.
Once the family gets on the ship, however, the first problem comes up. It seems that Dana's new boss doesn't really like Jim for the part of the father in the family. Trying to be gracious, he agrees to step aside while an actor named Ted assumes the role of the father during shooting. But when Ted starts to show up everywhere else, it gets to be an issue - especially when the girls take to him for the father-daughter events on board. When Jim finds out that Cheryl and Ted have to kiss at the end of the shooting, he almost goes ballistic.
