My Name is Earl Recap: South of the Border (Part Dos)
In South of the Border (Part Uno), Earl and Randy were making their way to Mexico to bring Catalina back home, after Earl had managed to get her deported. Meanwhile, Joy is taking her happy pills in an attempt to try to make herself seem more likable for her big court date, but her neighbors aren't making it easy. Earl and Randy had just made it into Mexico and are trying to find Catalina's village, but they got into a fight over Earl being hungry and now Earl has been kidnapped by bandits.
The head bandit in this case is named Diego (and is played by John Leguizamo), and as it turns out, he lets Earl live because he is a fan of American television and he is fascinated by Earl's story of karma (as told in the Pilot), which Earl saw on television himself. Then he finds out about Catalina, who, it just so happens, is his niece.
When they arrive at Catalina's village, they meet up with Randy, who spent the night with a couple who thought he was the embodiment of their dead son, and Randy is crushed to find out that Earl is going to marry Catalina to get her back into America (this was Diego's idea). But to do so, Earl must pass three tests to show that he is worthy. Earl tells Randy that he will fail, and Randy can then step up to be the hero.
Unfortunately, Diego and his newfound niceness wants Earl to succeed, so after Earl fails, he gives him another chance, and then another, and finally after he fails the third, he is about to give up when Randy steps up and offers his hand. Randy succeeds at all three tests, and marries Catalina.
Back in the trailer park, Joy finally gets pushed over the edge when the too-close neighbors hit one of the kids with a beer can while playing trash-can basketball, and says she will stop taking her pills, and in three days (when the pills wear off) she will come back and make sure she knows how unhappy she now is. Unless they stop. They agree to stop and move their trailer back where it was. It looks like everyone is happy again. Except for Darnell. He wants the old Joy back.
