Ghost Whisperer Recap: Dead to Rights
Melinda experiences a new feeling in this episode - she can't seem to get away from the spirit that is haunting her with visions of herself. It's like she's trapped. In a hospital, she visits the restroom, and when she opens the door, she sees a vision of herself, with her mouth stitched shut (it's actually pretty spooky). In another vision, she sees herself getting ready to be embalmed, and she can't explain that she's still alive. Yet the spirit doesn't seem to want to make contact with her, so she doesn't know what to do. Then one day as she is talking to Ned, he mentions that his mom can't seem to let go, and this makes her think that perhaps the ghost is trapped and can't get to her.
One day when walking Bob, the therapy dog belonging to Delia, she comes across a patient at the hospital that is hooked to life-support equipment, and realizes that there is a spirit attached to the body - it seems that the spirit is there, though the body isn't dead, and so she goes to talk to Professor Payne about it. While not actually a ghost, since he's not dead, it seems that the body is projecting his spirit, and trying to get away.
The body belongs to a young man who is a victim of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). He is in a coma, and unlikely to recover. His wife is trying to disconnect him from the life support, but his parents won't let her - they think that she is just after his money. After Melinda manages to get to talk to him, she finds out a horrible secret. Apparently the man's mother gave him a muscle relaxant when he had a seizure, but the doctor had taken him off of those pills because they could react with another medication, and that is what put him into the coma.
After this is revealed, the parties make peace, and he is allowed to finally die in peace.
