Ghost Whisperer Recap: Deja Boo
Melinda and Jim meet with Melinda's old friend Holly, who is pregnant and near to giving birth, but something is odd, and for once, it's not ghostly in nature - at least, not right off. The thing that is odd is that Holly is apparently good friends with Melinda (or the other way around), but we've never heard of her, at least that I can recall. In any case, when Holly comes over for dinner, he husband can't make it. So when she starts having some labor pains, naturally Jim helps out, being a paramedic and all.
But it's Melinda who really shines, since the cause of the pains is (wait for it) a ghost. This ghost is different from all the rest that she's seen previously, just like most of those from this season. It really makes you wonder if they are running out of stories to tell. I can't say that I disagree - I mean how many people can you help, when they are just dead people who aren't quite done with life. They have to do something to make you keep watching, after all.
In this case, the ghost appears to have some problem figuring out who he is, and that's not really new, but what is new is that he seems to be multiple people, that all look the same. They just have different names and jobs. When Melinda looks into it, it turns out that he may have more in common than it first seems. In fact, he may be the same person. It looks like this ghost may have lived more than one life. That's a new twist.
In fact, Professor Payne isn't quite sure what to make of it, but he wants to be able to see some of these ghosts, and thinks that it isn't fair that Melinda gets all the "fun" from them. They seem to share a little bond as well. Not sure where that is going. On one hand, it seems like they might be setting the two of them up for more than just a casual relationship. On the other, I think overdoing him would be bad. I like Jay Mohr, but I'm not sure if he'd be as enjoyable here. We'll just have to see.
Anyway, once Melinda manages to contact this ghost, he has decided that he doesn't want to come back - even if it means that the baby of Melinda's friend Holly might not make it. She just doesn't know what to do, so she contacts the ghost's sister, who isn't helping a whole lot. In the end, Holly has her baby, and Melinda knows that something else is afoot. It seems that she may be the one that is pregnant, so she may be the one who is destined to bring him back into this world.
When Melinda and Jim talk about having a baby, even though they aren't ready, it touches the ghost, for he has never done anything for anyone, and that act is what finally gives him the ability to pass on and into the light. Somewhat hokey, to be sure. Melinda is sad to see him go, but she knows that ultimately it is his reward and she lets him leave.
