Ghost Whisperer Recap: Speed Demon
As Melinda returns home from an estate sale along a lonely highway, her engine gives out. Why is it that the engine always dies right where you're least likely to find help? She calls Jim to let him know that she's okay, but having some difficulty, but just then a ghost shows up, too, and it's a spooky one, with a skull for a head. Odd, because most ghosts are as they died - perhaps that means that this one had no skin on its head when it died.
Just then, a large truck comes by and a woman stops to help Melinda get going. Lucky break! Melinda finally makes it back into town, only to find that Delia is having troubles with Ned. He's been hanging out with a group of "friends", but she can't seem to find out too much about them, and he's resisting her attempts to find out anything about them. Teenagers!
When Melinda gets home, she convinces Jim to go out with her again to the strange road, and they break down again! Only this time, the strange ghost takes possession of the car, almost causing them to wreck they are going so fast. Suddenly they screech to a halt, right in front of the skull-headed ghost. It's time for some investigation.
Melinda and Jim head into town and stop at a garage, owned by the woman who helped her the night before. Melinda asks if there have been any deaths or strange happenings along the road, and a bit strangely, the woman tells her that there's nothing odd. Then Melinda starts asking about a series of numbers she saw on a sign, and the midnight circle. That appears to wear out their welcome, and Jim and Melinda head out.
Next up is of course Professor Payne. Melinda decides to visit him, but before she can get there she runs into none other than his wife, who says that she has heard all about Melinda. My money is still on the fact that she is dead, and we're seeing a ghost here. It's just getting too obvious, with Melinda telling him "if he needs to talk".
In any case, Payne says that he doesn't know anything about the circle, but he does tell Melinda that the numbers are just a date - one year ago. Using that, Melinda figures out that someone died that night, and using her detective skills, she finds out that it was the boyfriend of her garage owner. Unfortunately, she is still not forthcoming with any details of anything.
Luckily Ned happens by, and it seems that he's in a little over his head. After tailing him, Melinda ends up at the midnight circle, which is a group of people who are into illegal racing, and wouldn't you know it, the owner of the garage is there too. After a little prodding, it seems that her boyfriend died in a race one year ago, and she's due to race the guy who was up against him that night.
Finally Melinda has a chance to talk to Gordon, the guy who died, and he's slowly turned into a normal person again. He seems to think that Cindy, the owner of the garage, was jealous of him and tinkered with his car, causing it to blow up when he hit the gas. Unfortunately, she doesn't agree. Eventually Gordon remembers that it was his fault - he tried to run the other guy off the road, and it was his own stupidity that caused the accident. Just in time he helps to save Cindy, for he had messed with Cindy's car, hoping to kill her in the process.
