My Name is Earl Recap: The Birthday Party

When Earl tries to celebrate his birthday, he decides to pat himself on the back just a little. Nothing big, just to congratulate himself a bit for making the world a little better over the last year than it would have been otherwise.

So as he's at the Crab Shack, he mills about with everyone in town - or at least, with everyone who happened by the party, which seems to be about everyone in town - and casually mentions something that he may have done to help them over the course of the last year. One by one, they shoot him down by mentioning something else he could have done better.

You see, it appears that each and every person at the party is on on a gag, but they didn't tell Earl about it. They wanted him to get a little bit down on himself, and then surprise him at the end by telling him what a good job that he's been doing.

Even his dad came down for the event.

So after a little while of this, when he can't take any more, he heads out and decides that he'll just go back to the hotel. That's when he encounters Didi. It seems that this is the one person in town who isn't in on the joke. Apparently Earl took Didi home one night, and had a wonderful night with her. The next morning, he woke up and found her cooking breakfast - but her leg was still in bed. And he hasn't talked to her since.

Luckily, a one-legged woman can't move too fast, so he beats her back to the hotel, and when he gets there, he finds everyone else, who is ready to surprise him - but they have to hide until Didi decides to go home. Then they have a great party.
