Ghost Whisperer Recap: The Cradle Will Rock

Melinda and Delia are caught in the midst of a jewelry store robbery, which itself is probably interesting because so much happens in such a small town. But what perhaps makes things more interesting is that Delia had just received a ring from the jeweler, and that was naturally lost in the holdup.

What makes matters worse is that the jeweler, who was helping the two of them at the time, dies a short time later, and that (wait for it) turns him into a ghost, and he just wants to help his wife and young child, so there is certainly something to come of all this. So much drama for such a little town. You would think Grandview is a metropolis with all that goes on there.

When Melinda goes to visit the grieving widow, she instead finds a somewhat less than grief-stricken sister and brother-in-law, who are in the process of tearing apart the house. It seems that they are looking for something, but they won't let her in on the secret. Randy, the ghost, will only tell Melinda that she needs to tell his wife about a cradle in the basement that he was working on.

The two psychos actually hold Melinda there, and keep her from leaving, which makes her think they were in on something, and she gradually gets the story from Randy while they aren't around. It seems that Randy and the brother-in-law planned the whole robbery from the start. But now the brother-in-law is mad because he can't find the money.

As Melinda uncovers more details, it becomes increasingly unclear that she isn't being told everything however - the robber at the store only took jewels, so it seems that Randy was being a little enterprising on his own, and trying to set up his brother in law - but when he wouldn't let him in on it, his partner in crime killed him. Now he's gone a little over the edge trying to find the money, since he's being blamed for it and all.

With her new knowledge, Melinda tells him about the cradle, and while he doesn't believe in the ghost angle, he does think that the money might be hidden there, so he breaks it apart - and finds a key. Melinda gets another story from Randy, that the key opens a lock at the gym, but all that does is serve to get the brother-in-law arrested, and there is still no sign of the money.

At the end of the episode, however, there are two twists.

The first is that Randy turns a bit evil, and tells Melinda that he's been talking to someone else (Romano, presumably - I've been wondering where that guy went), and he disappears downward. The second is that Melinda and Delia go to check on Randy's wife, only to find that she's gone - and a chest in the baby's room has been broken open, to reveal a false bottom. It turns out the money was there all along. They key didn't open anything, because the chest was unlocked the whole time - it was just to show his wife where the money was. Sweet.
