Dirt Recap: The Thing Under the Bed

After the mess with the cheerleader has her reeling a bit (see The Secret Lives of Altar Girls for the beginning of the saga, and Come Together for the part that really shook her), Willa is looking to get back in the saddle - and make sure that Lucy really likes what she is doing. So she's out, trying to figure out what is going on with one of Hollywood's most eligible stars, who is alleged to be getting married.

Willa even has an in with the publicist - but he isn't giving her much. Because of their relationship, he will let her in on the bidding, but that's not sitting well with Lucy - she doesn't like putting up a bunch of cash when she doesn't even know what she is bidding on, so she sends Willa and Don out to try and find the real story, and what they come up with is nothing short of spectacular.

It seems that the little Hollywood darling has been out dancing it up with someone special, but that someone special is someone of the same sex. And they've been out drinking and dancing in a strip club when Willa and Don snap some very candid photos of them. Lucy presents these as evidence of the impending nuptials, and that gains her some leverage, but only in the bargaining process.

Namely, it gets her in on the real scoop - that the wedding is actually between the girl and her former husband, who not so long ago was being accused of spousal rape. Not just abuse, but spousal rape. Why exactly she wants to go back with him now is a bit of a mystery, but it's a scoop that belongs to Dirt Now, and while Lucy is suspicious, at least she has something for her money, so she's happy. Relatively speaking. When the girl tells Lucy she just doesn't understand the concept of love, Lucy knows something is up, but she lets it ride. For now.

Unfortunately, she still can't sleep at night. It seems her mom is getting some work done, and when she needed some things brought over, Lucy looked through her stuff, finding a few sexual accessories. That was disturbing enough. But then she found a picture of her and a man who she didn't recognize. Confronting her mom about it, she finds out that it is one Alan Sealove, who was partners with her dad in Spiller and Sealove. It seems her mom harbors some pretty bad feelings about the guy, blaming him for running the family into the ground.

Lucy has Don look into the picture, and finds (somehow) that it was taken in Twilight Ridge, Minnesota (which doesn't appear to be a real place, so far as I can tell). I guess we'll have to wait to find out more about this in a future episode.

For now, Lucy is just lucky that Holt is mostly free these days, since his honey Julia is still in rehab. While Holt tries to do the right thing, and even goes to see her, Julia isn't dealing with her new situation very well. In fact, when Holt goes to see Julia, she throws a tantrum because the food he brings her is cold. Talk about a spoiled brat. Good thing Holt is the understanding sort, and he buckles in for the long haul. Or maybe he's just feeling guilty because he's been spending all his free time with Lucy. Nonetheless, he helps her make it through her stay.

Back to Lucy, she seems to have picked up a fan herself, and she gets a surprise as she goes out to her car and gets a picture of - herself! That's right, it seems that someone has been following the heartless one around and snapping pictures of her when she is most vulnerable. Well, perhaps not most vulnerable, because we haven't seen any pictures of her with Holt (not yet, at any rate). But she is undressing. It may go without saying, but Lucy isn't happy about this development at all.
