Jericho Recap: Black Jack
Jake and Jimmy, who is acting an awful lot like a big-shot (especially so as he has generally had almost no role through the first twelve - count 'em - episodes of this show) decide that it's getting mighty cold out when they come across a dead body in a house right there in town.
There isn't any mention of just why they are canvassing the town, or why they chose this one, or who this guy is in the first place, but it apparently isn't the only person who's turned up dead from the cold, so that gets everyone worried enough to decide to leave their little Garden of Eden and venture out into the big, cruel world and try to find a trading post that Roger heard stories about while he was trying to make his way back to Emily.
It's not a surprise that Jake goes, or not so much that his dad tags along. He's been itching to do something ever since Gray took over is mayor. What is utterly baffling is that Heather goes - arguably to keep the car running - and even more bizarre is that they take youngster Dale along too. Naturally, Dale thinks that he'll be able to sell some of his goods to get his fledgling grocery store empire off the ground.
Unfortunately, when they arrive at the fairgrounds (yes, that's what this place used to be), they find out that all the stuff Dale has been hoarding, like gold and the like, is absolutely worthless because you can't buy anything. What people need is what will help them survive. I guess those life lessons from Gracie Leigh didn't really help all that much.
Back in Jericho, Hawkins has received a visitor - and to make matters worse, he's brought Sarah back to meet the family. Unfortunately, his wife doesn't take kindly to him bringing his mistress home with him. While nothing particularly interesting happens here, Hawkins and Sarah do have talks about The Package, so it looks like something might happen in the future, and even more so when Sarah starts sending text messages to someone about her nefarious intentions.
Over in Black Jack, the away team does find what they need - a part that will help their windmill work. Strange that no one ever really mentioned their windmill before. Anyway, Heather says that it will do the job, but then Dangerous Dale peeks behind a curtain and sees some beds in a back room, and the deal is off. But before the gang heads home, he decides to take a five-finger discount on the part he needs.
Did I mention that the like to hang thieves in the Black Jack Trading Post? Sorry, I must have left that out.
Only some quick thinking - and driving - by (who else) Jake and some new friends from the next town over get them all out alive, and luckily, it seems that Heather can lend a hand to these folks, who seem to think that they can make the part that they need - all from Heather's memory. I guess it's good that she went along. The bad part is that she isn't going to make it back to Jericho, because they need her expertise to make the magic happen. Perhaps the purging of characters has begun.
