Dirt Recap: This Is Not Your Father's Hostage Situation
As Lucy wonders where she'll find her next story, it turns out that the story is on her way to her. Former child star Sammy Winter (Vincent Gallo) has decided that it's time to collect on a debt that he feels he's owed by Lucy. Unfortunately, it's not really convenient for anyone else.
It would appear that Sammy was promised a story some time ago, on Lucy's rise to the top, and as Lucy has a habit of sometimes doing, she simply forgot to do that story. So now Sammy wants it done, and he's decided to take the entire office hostage to get his story out there. As they say in Hollywood, any press is good press.
This may actually be true, though perhaps not for Sammy. It is certainly the case for Lucy, as everyone in town is watching the building to see what happens, and Lucy is going to get another great cover. Even Holt is paying close attention to see what's going to come of it - though to be fair, he may just be hoping that he can get rid of Lucy without Julia finding out about the two of them. For now, it's just morbid curiosity.
Meanwhile, Willa, Brent and a cleaning lady are holed up in a janitorial closet trying not to make a sound. Though you might think it was planned that way, it wasn't. Willa and Brent started off there, but the cleaning lady was just looking for some place to hide and came upon the other two. Now Brent is too chicken to stick his head (or any other body part) out and do anything. It's a sad state of affairs when the almost-elderly cleaning lady has more courage than he does. But it is fun to watch.
As this unfolds, the rest of the staff tries to put together an insider's view of the whole hostage situation, and generally it goes pretty well. Lucy does get a bump on her head, but she gets her issue together. The only casualty in the whole thing is intern Kenny. It's probably for the best - he would have gotten the ax eventually anyway, since he was planning his baby's birth on Lucy's clock, and then he was flirting with a co-worker. He just had the misfortune of being in the wrong spot at the wrong time when Sammy was trying to prove a point.
The whole episode is really pretty tame, and essentially just ends when the magazine is done. This is probably the dullest that's aired to date, and I hope it's not a sign of what's to come.
