Rome Recap: De Patre Vostro

Rome · Season 2 · Episode 10 · Aired March 25, 2007

In the season – and series – finale About Your Father, we take another small time warp, this time until we near the end of the war. Antony has just heard that his navy has been defeated, and that means that he’s about to lose and lose badly. There’s only one thing left to do: Orgy.

So that is just what he and Cleopatra do. Inside this fancy party palace, seemingly accessed only by “flying chair” that lifts you into the chamber, the two of them throw the party to end all parties. I just want to know – how does the last guy get down? Or the first guy get up? It’s all great until the details start being questioned.

Rome Recap: Deus Impeditio Esuritori Nullus

Rome · Season 2 · Episode 9 · Aired March 18, 2007

Talk about your wacky titles. I hear tell that it means “No God Can Stop A Hungry Man”, but take that with a grain of salt, because it may not mean anything like it. Regardless of the meaning of the title, this episode shows us again that the series has little regard for time, because we are suddenly shown Egypt, and Antony has apparently been there long enough to crank out a couple of kids with Cleopatra. I mean we’re talking several years since A Necessary Fiction. It would be nice if they at least said “a few years later” or something.

Nonetheless, things aren’t going well in Rome, for they are hungry, and it seems that Antony holds all the cards. Or at least the grain. For he’s trying to hold back the shipments of grain, in hopes that this will lead, somehow, to his triumphant return to power in Rome. Octavian, ever the strategist, sends Atia and Octavia to Egypt to meet with Antony, but it’s just a power play. Either he gets the grain, or the women are dishonored, and the people of Rome now hate Antony.

Rome Recap: A Necessary Fiction

Now we’re talking. This was one of the best episodes in some time. Twisted, sure. But at least it had some action and things are finally picking up, for the first time in a while. I mean it’s like we’ve been watching The Sopranos, things are so dull of late.

So now that Octavian knows about the bribe from Herod, it’s just a matter of getting it safely to Rome. Vorenus gets the job, and who better to oversee the transfer of funds than the best character on the show, Pullo? Well, no one, obviously.

Close to Home Recap: Making Amends

Close to Home · Season 2 · Episode 18 · Aired March 3, 2007

A woman gets a surprise email from an old college buddy. Except he isn’t exactly a buddy. Perhaps he would have been, but instead of being a friend, he took her to a fraternity party, and when they were there, he – or at least one of his frat buddies – slipped her a Mickey, and then she was raped.

Well, now the guy is in some form of recovery program (Alcoholics Anonymous, perhaps), which involves as one of the steps apologizing to those you have wronged, and so he makes contact with the woman to apologize for what he’s done. Only now it’s past the statute of limitations, so he can’t be prosecuted. Or can he?

Ghost Whisperer Recap: Children of Ghosts

Ghost Whisperer · Season 2 · Episode 18 · Aired March 30, 2007

Melinda goes to an estate sale with Delia, where she is confronted with a familiar feeling. As she tries to look at some snow globes, the wind picks up and things just get a little bit creepier, so she knows that yet another ghost is about to make its presence known. Yet it’s a little girl who confronts her, saying that the snow globes belonged to her mother.

Upon further investigation, it seems that the little girl came to Grandview with her mother, but while she was waiting for her mother to return so they could take a bus or something, her mother never showed. She’s been waiting ever since, moving from one foster home to the next. The wind and general disturbances that follow her have been getting stronger recently.

Lost Recap: Expose

Lost · Season 3 · Episode 14 · Aired March 28, 2007

In Enter 77, we found that Hurley and Sawyer like to play ping-pong. They must really like it. A lot. Because they are still playing when Nikki (that blonde girl you didn’t see until a few episodes ago, but she must have been around for a while) comes running out of the jungle, mutters a few words, and drops to the ground, apparently dead.

The guys follow the trail into the jungle and find Paolo (the guy she always hung out with) lying there, apparently dead as well. The good news is that these two, who really added almost nothing to the storyline, aren’t going to be around any longer. The bad news is that no one knew them well enough to have any idea why they are suddenly dead. I guess we’ll have to look at their back-story.

Dirt Recap: Ita Missa Est

Dirt · Season 1 · Episode 13 · Aired March 27, 2007

Don really needs to go back on his meds. Not only is he having visions of Marqui, but Kira has joined him, and now that he’s wandering around in the desert, he’s even having visions of himself. It’s a pasty, ghost-like evil version of himself, but it’s still himself. And all of these visions are telling him to kill Lucy.

Lucy, meanwhile, is looking for Don, and trying to figure out just who is stalking her. It turns out to be someone that no one would expect. It’s her brother Leo. According to him, it was because of the fact that she had him followed (way back in What to Expect When You’re Expecting). Talk about holding a grudge.

Jericho Recap: Winter’s End

Jericho · Season 1 · Episode 16 · Aired March 28, 2007

Hawkins comes in from burying Sarah and is greeted by Sheriff Jimmy, who wants to know if he’s seen Sarah. No sign of her. Then Hawkins goes to bury the big bomb, and Jimmy shows up again. Still no sign of her. Apparently some people found a body out in the woods, and Jimmy thinks Sarah might be involved. Hawkins jumps on the opportunity and agrees that she might have been, but he doesn’t know for sure.

That’s when Jimmy wants to talk to Darcy about it, and starts to wonder why he hasn’t seen her around. Hawkins seriously looks like he’s about to kill Jimmy at this point, but instead of that, he decides that he’ll tell him the truth – or at least some version of it – and tells Jimmy that he and Darcy are having some marital problems. That seems to get Jimmy to lighten up a bit, and he turns into Dr. Phil, and offers whatever help he can give.

But when Jim watches the girls play, and sees just how badly the girls play – and worse, that they actually get excited about the poor play and the happy time that they spend together – he feels like he only has one choice.

He decides to coach. This was Cheryl’s plan all along. She was just surprised it took two games.

The Riches Recap: Operation Education

The Riches · Season 1 · Episode 3 · Aired March 26, 2007

Wayne starts his job at Panco, and finds that he has an assignment on his first day. Actually, he has two, but one of them is a secret to everyone but him and his family. The first is that he has to convince everyone else that he’s a lawyer, when he has absolutely no experience – much less education, certification or anything else that would allow him to conduct business as a lawyer.

The second is a more mundane job, and that’s simply a pet project of Hugh. Whenever someone new comes on board, they have to make room for themselves by clearing out the person who previously held the job. In other words, Wayne has to fire his predecessor.
