Jericho Recap: Heart of Winter
While Black Jack had some pretty interesting action (even if it was of the prime-time network variety, which means that Dale survived), this episode is almost the exact opposite. Yet Jake is still the focus. How does that work?
In any case, after the hair-raising adventure at the Flea Market from Hell, Jake, Stanley and Mimi go hunting. I don't care how bad Stanley thinks he needs to get a little action, bringing Mimi along was not a good idea. It's probably not a good idea to hunt radioactive wildlife either, but I digress. In the process, they are run off the road by everyone's favorite bad guys, Ravenwood. Or people who drive a truck that looks a lot like them.
Yet somehow, the star of the show (that would be Jake) survives. He's just stuck under the front end. So Stanley stays with Jake to keep him warm - shades of Brokeback Mountain, anyone? - and Mimi goes off to get help. Really. She who cannot follow directions and is from nowhere near Jericho has to find her way back to town and then get people to find their way back to Jake.
At least half the episode seems to be caught up in either a: Mimi wandering around on a road outside of Jericho, trying to figure out which way to turn or b: Jake and Stanley sharing a touching moment next to the truck. I am not making this up. As enjoyable as this show is, it's enough to make me want to turn the channel. Or fast forward a little faster using the little button on my remote, which I did.
Eventually, Mimi does find Jericho, and she brings back what appears to be about half the town. But before they get there, Jake's dad hangs out with him and hears a confession that Jake killed a little girl. We don't really get to find out too much more than this, but it is an indication that Jake is really a bad boy. No wonder all the girls go crazy for him.
Luckily, there is more happening or this week would be a total waste.
Hawkins and his best buddy Sarah are trying to make contact with her, uh, contact. But it seems that someone made it there first and destroyed everything. Only they didn't destroy everything, but only some things, and that makes Hawkins suspicious. Yes, more suspicious than normal, if you can believe that. So they high-tail it out of there.
Back home, Sarah goes out on a mission of her own and kills someone, who we saw earlier spying on them from the woods while they checked out the place that they were supposed to meet Sarah's "contact". I guess Sarah might be on her own. But she sure isn't helpless now, is she? Interesting, but this is still perhaps the worst episode of the season.
