Dirt Recap: The Sexxx Issue
In the aftermath of the hostage situation, Lucy wants to both lighten the mood and sell a few magazines. She proposes to call it the "Sexxx Issue" and put it in a bag on the newsstand, forcing readers to buy it to open it and see what's inside.
Brent calls it tacky - and expensive - and refuses to let her do it. But that is before he and Willa get caught up in a little hanky-panky of their own that might just change his answer.
One night at a bar, they meet a willing third to join them back home. But they are greeted the following day by an irate father who claims that she is just 17, and he threatens to sue not only Brent and Willa, but the magazine and the entire publishing empire as well. It looks like things are getting a bit out of hand, but it's certainly a week chock full of sex, so perhaps it is appropriate.
To make matters worse, the father is the manager of a young starlet who came out of nowhere not long ago, and so it would seem that he has the resources to make things happen - and to make them miserable - should he choose to do so. Now it's just a question of whether or not Lucy can dig up enough dirt on him before he goes to the press.
Meanwhile, Holt continues to experience issues with Julia, but those are mostly because his obsession with Lucy grows stronger by the minute. The fact that Julia is apparently still recovering from her drug addiction and other issues certainly plays into the fact as well. And just to make sure that no one is excluded, even Don gets into the game, as he tries to deal with his own childhood demons so that he can be intimate with Abby, who to her credit, is willing to do just about anything for Don.
The really interesting part of the story comes back to the father who is so irate at Brent (and, to a lesser extent, Willa). The first clue that something is amiss is that he's willing to back off his lawsuit in exchange for a cover story. For three cover stories, to be exact. So Brent agrees to his demands, and by then Lucy is hot on his trail, because it seems that something similar happened with his other daughter and a prior editor, so she thinks something isn't right.
When she confronts him, the father dares Lucy to prove it, and it looks like he's about to get away with it - until Willa pulls out the girl's birth certificate, that shows that she is 19. I guess there won't be any lawsuit, or any free covers. I guess Lucy also gets her bagged copies on the newsstand.
