Grease: You're the One That I Want Recap: Another Danny Must Leave
Last week, on The Four Remaining Dannys Perform, I predicted that Chad Doreck and Derek Keeling would be the ones in the bottom, and Derek would head home. Chad actually got the boot, and Derek wasn't in the bottom two. Not my best prediction.
This week, the girls return to the show and everyone gets on stage to sing Grease.
Allie Schulz then sang (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. Kathleen Marshall thought that Allie looked great, but that her performance could be stronger. Chad's Take: I like Allie, and she looks the part, but she just doesn't quite do it for me. I would suspect she's getting the vote on her looks rather than her singing ability.
Derek Keeling gave us Devil in Disguise, and Kathleen thought that Derek could be a leading man. Chad's Take: Derek can sing, but he tends to break at the high end. Very similar to Allie, I think he's getting the vote based on his appearance, rather than his ability. At this point, he needs to have the chops, and I'm not sure if he does.
Laura Osnes delivered Don’t Leave Me This Way, leading Jim Jacobs to tell her that he could see the sexiness that she needs to play Sandy. Chad's Take: Laura has the whole package. She's been my favorite ever since Jesus Christ Superstar, and unless she makes a horrible mistake, I think she'll coast to the victory.
Max Crumm followed Laura with Suspicious Minds and guest judge Rob Marshall thinks that we might be looking at the next Danny. Chad's Take: I have to wonder if they are putting Max next to Laura to get you ready to see them on Broadway, but I like Max as much as I like Laura. They go together well. Like Laura, it's Max' game to lose.
We then got to see everyone performing together again, singing All That Jazz, and then Austin and Chad sang Rock 'N Roll Party Queen, with the judges deciding to keep Austin and send Chad home.
Ashley Anderson belted out Keep Me Hanging On, which the audience really seemed to enjoy, and David Ian said that she was great all around and she should be in the final two. Chad's Take: I don't know. Frankly, I think Allie and Ashley are awfully close, and neither really holds a candle to Laura. I'd probably give Ashley the nod over Allie, but neither wowed me tonight.
Austin Miller, fresh from the sing-off, sang Can’t Help Falling in Love, and David, for one, said that he was impressed with how he sang for his life, then came back and sang again right away. Chad's Take: I think he did well if you look at it like that, but Austin still doesn't really connect. He has that smoldering look, but he doesn't have the playful bit that Max has had all along. Austin will beat Derek, but not Max.
The Prediction: I still like Max. That puts Austin and Derek in the bottom two for the Dannys (if they do that). I like Laura for the Sandys, meaning it's Allie and Ashley in the bottom. Going home, I see Derek and Allie.
Update: The judges are out of the equation, which means it's up to America. Laura was safe, and Allie was sent home, leaving Laura and Allie in the final two. In a bit of a surprise, Austin was declared safe for the Dannys, and Austin faced Derek in the elimination. Derek was cut, so it's Max and Austin. My picks are of course Max and Laura, so we'll have to see what happens.
