The Riches Recap: Believe the Lie
Now that they have decided to become buffers, the Malloy family have to set about becoming the Riches. The first step is to figure out just who these people are, so Cael and Wayne (who will from this point forward be known as Doug) have to figure out how to get into the laptop.
Trying every trick he knows, Cael can't seem to break in. Then he has an inspiration and checks inside the battery compartment. There, in plain lettering, is what is too good to be true. Surely it can't be the password. But after putting it back together and trying again, it is indeed. Doug isn't terribly secure. He is filthyrich, but he is not particularly bright.
Now that they are into the computer, they can start making plans. And the first thing that comes up is a job interview. So Doug heads back to the country club and finds that the men he beat at golf are in fact the ones who are interviewing him. Of course, he has no experience whatsoever as a lawyer, but he manages to bluff his way through the meeting, and it seems that he'll be getting the job soon enough.
When he gets home, he finds that his dear wife Dahlia has tallied their monthly expenses and to live as a buffer will cost them eight thousand dollars each month. So it looks like Doug needs a raise. Instead of going back to the people who just hired him, he goes instead to talk to Hugh Panetta, the freewheeling head of Panco, and offers his services as a free agent for a larger salary.
Hugh likes his style, and gives him the job - even though Doug still has no qualifications as a lawyer - because he likes the way Doug convinces him to Believe the Lie. The bit is actually quite good, with Doug telling him that a good lawyer will convince him to believe the truth, but a great lawyer will convince him to believe the lie, all the while pointing a gun (which is unloaded, but Hugh doesn't know that) at him. And at the end, Doug has a new job. For two hundred thousand per year.
Frankly, I'm thinking that a salary like that isn't very much. After taxes, he'll be lucky to bring home the $96,000 he needs, so he better hope Dahlia isn't spending much. It's a good thing they have that $40,000 that they stole from the family. Oh, did I forget to mention? They buried it next to the RV. But a neighbor had the RV towed, so they can't seem to find the money. This might get a little dicey before too long.
Ah well. For now, Doug has a job, and things seem to be going well. Except for that little problem that Doug isn't actually a lawyer. But they can deal with that later.
