Lost Recap: The Man from Tallahassee

For a slight change of pace, we start this episode off the island, where we see Locke in some sort of office, getting asked a series of rather mundane questions. Questions that he doesn't really seem to want to answer. He just wants his disability check. The guy is in a wheelchair - what do his biological parents have to do with that? Then he gets up and walks away, so I guess we're talking about a different disability. Nevermind.

Then we're back on the island, and there he is, hanging out with Kate and Sayid, as they watch Jack play catch with Tom (that's Mr. Friendly to you). Just as Kate's about to grab Jack, Juliet comes out and gets Jack instead, and they take off somewhere else. Guess it's good that Kate didn't jump out, or there would have been some serious fur flying.

Jump back to Locke's back-story, and we see him hanging out in an apartment when he's interrupted by a knock on the door. He's already gone through the "I'm your dad, can I have your kidney" routine, and that didn't turn out well. I wonder who this will be. The kid on the other side looks too young to be his dad, so maybe he'll try and go for the son angle.

In fact, he does - but not Locke's son. Someone else's son. He says that he found Locke through a story about him giving a kidney to his dad, and now his mom is getting married to the old man, and he needs Locke's help, because he doesn't want his mom to get into this. Locke does what he feels he's supposed to do, and he confronts his old man, who says that he'll break it off in his own way.

The next day, Locke is waiting again and there's another knock. This time it's the police. Figures. Looks like the old man turned him in, because they want to know if Locke knows the kid in the picture. He tries to play dumb, but when he finds out that the kid is dead, he tries to tell them what is happening, but they don't buy it. They do let him go though.

Back to the island, and it's time to get something going. The away team splits up. Kate goes after Jack. Locke goes after Ben. No idea what happened to Sayid.

We get to see that Locke busts into Ben's place, almost gets caught when Mr. Friendly/Tom/Richard (that's a new one) comes in, then thinks he's caught when they send for "The Man from Tallahassee", and then finally gets his pack when Ben sends Alex out to get his bag with the explosives. Looks like it's time for something big to happen.

Over at Jack's place, Kate gets caught. There's just no fun way to say it. She gets busted because they have a camera watching him. Then she gets tied up and dissed by her arch-rival Juliet, who says she's leaving. And oh yeah, she's taking Jack with her. Bummer. Then to make matters worse, Jack comes in and confirms that he's leaving too, but he'll come back for her. Sure you will, doc.

Now we see Sayid - apparently he got caught too, but he has Locke's pack, and Alex manages to get it with some threatening talk about Ben wanting it and Ben getting what he wants. Speaking of Ben, he and Locke are whipping up a snack - well, Locke is - and talking like they are college buddies (which perhaps they are). Then Ben starts talking about a magical box that can conjure up anything you want, and then it's there.

Locke doesn't seem to care. He just eats his chicken, then heads down to the dock with his bag, and does something (can you guess what it is?). By then, Jack and Juliet are headed down to the dock as well, but they don't quite make it. They are met by a beaten Locke, who apologizes to them, and then we get a very satisfying explosion, which in case you hadn't figured it out, is the sound made when an explosive device detonates in the submarine.

That apparently jars Locke right back to his back-story, because we see him confronting his father about killing the little kid who just wanted him not to marry his mom, and that really sets him off, so he up and tackles Locke - right through a window - it looked to be about eight stories. Very impressive fall indeed, and now we know what it is that caused Locke to be paralyzed.

The fall, in turn, sends Locke back to the island, where he gets another lecture on the magic box from Ben. Locke still doesn't know what they hell Ben is talking about, so a demonstration is in order. Locke is uncuffed and taken down the hallway to a door, which is opened to reveal what he apparently wanted most from the box. There, behind the door is... Locke's dad.

So... is Locke's dad The Man from Tallahassee? If so, did Locke bring him to the island, or did Ben?
