The Amazing Race Recap: Warsaw, Poland
If I Were In Town, I'd Ask For Your Number (Part 1)
Another week, another round of having to say that Charla and Mirna start in first place. As odd as it was last week, it was even worse this week. After arriving first in Zanzibar, Tanzania, the cousins head out first again this week.
At 4:20am, they find that they have to fly 5000 miles to Warsaw, Poland, where they will make their way to Czapski Palace, the childhood home of Frederic Chopin. Oddly enough, flights from Mozambique are somewhat limited, meaning the teams are provided with tickets that will arrive at 11:25am the next day. They were under no obligation to use these tickets, so if they can find something else, they are free to do so.
Charla and Mirna, Oswald and Danny and Dustin and Kandice gather at the travel agency, waiting for it to open at 8:30am, while Uchenna and Joyce wait at a South African Airlines office, also set to open at 8:30am. As they wait, they try to call the travel agent, but the other teams there find out that it is Uchenna on the phone and quickly put an end to the call.
One agent is used by Charla and Mirna with Oswald and Danny, while Dustin and Kandice use another for themselves. Somehow the beauty queens manage to snag the last two seats on a flight connecting through Addis Adaba and Frankfurt, landing in Warsaw at 9:10am. Uchenna and Joyce booked the same connection, landing at 9:10am, but they need to pick their tickets up in Frankfurt to make the flight.
Oswald and Danny and Charla and Mirna eventually find tickets through Amsterdam, landing at 9:45am, while Joe and Bill and Eric and Danielle used the tickets that they were given.
Landing in Kilamanjaro, Tanzania, Eric and Danielle and Joe and Bill tried to pick up tickets for their connecting flights to Amsterdam and Warsaw, but an agent told them that they were too late. The teams begged, pleaded, and begged some more, and the only result was the Joe ran out on the tarmac shouting at the plane. Talk about disheartening. The next morning, the booked the 6:30am flight to Warsaw.
In Frankfurt, Uchenna and Joyce had similar problems as they missed their connecting flight because they could not pick up their tickets in time. This meant that Dustin and Kandice took the lead as the only team to Warsaw to land on the 9:10am flight.
Once they arrived in Warsaw, Dustin and Kandice encountered a Detour, where they had to choose between Perfect Pitch and Perfect Angle.
In Perfect Pitch, teams had to make their way three-quarters of a mile to the Prymas Palace and choose a grand piano. Then, they needed to use the provided tools to tune one key of the keyboard. Once the concert pianist played a piece of Chopin's music and determined that their piano was in tune, he would hand them their next clue. In Perfect Angle, teams made their way approximately half a mile to the Escada Boutique to pick up a mannequin and carry it another 400 yards to the Panoramik Laboratory. Once there, teams had to use an x-ray machine to locate a clue imbedded somewhere inside their mannequin which needed to be positioned at a very specific angle for the image to capture the name of their next destination.
To me, this was one of the more challenging Detours seen recently. The problem is that I have horrible pitch, so even though that may have been the better choice, it would have scared me to death. Meanwhile, the perfect angle involves getting the mannequin at just the right angle, which may have taken a really long time - and it appeared to do so for certain teams.
Dustin, however, had played the piano since she was six, so they chose Perfect Pitch, and despite some misgivings, they finished quickly, getting a clue to travel to Jan III Sobieski Lazienki, a monument honoring a king of Poland.
Arriving quickly at the monument, the Beauty Queens receive their next clue that tells them to search the palace grounds for the next Pit Stop, which they do easily, finishing in first place. This wins them a trip for two to Puerto Rico.
- Dustin and Kandice look like they are making their move.
- Oswald and Danny are still looking strong.
- Uchenna and Joyce looking decent, but for how long?
- Charla and Mirna are keeping in there too.
- Eric and Danielle - on their way out, or on their way up?
- Joe and Bill may finally be on the ropes.
But that's not it! This is the second non-elimination leg, and so Joe and Bill are still in it. In fact, Dustin and Kandice actually left before Eric and Danielle even arrived, which is probably why this is a two-part, two-hour episode.
