The Riches Recap: Been There, Done That
Cael, meeting his girlfriend at a diner to rescue her from Dale, figures out that he's been set up. Luckily for him he can think on his feet, and so he sneaks out to call the cops on the suspicious guy in a truck outside, which gives him enough of a lead to get away before Dale can follow him. But he didn't see Ginny waiting outside, and she follows Dale home. That will be trouble before long.
As if things aren't challenging enough, what with trying to be a lawyer and all, Doug is settling into his new job at Panco when his boss Hugh comes in with a small public relations job. It seems that the Homeowners Against Panco have assembled in the lobby, and Hugh wants Doug to deal with them. They apparently don't like the fact that their homes were built on an old bombing range.
This may not be a problem, but the homeowners allege that there are still unexploded items scattered around the neighborhood, and one person in particular seems to think that her dog was the victim of one of these items. Unfortunately all she has as evidence is the dog's leash and a small crater. I'm not one to support animal cruelty, but it was a bit funny.
Doug handles the situation as well as can be expected, which is basically to tell the folks that shit happens, and that they simply need to deal with the occasional problem in their lives. One crisis averted, he heads back to his office, only to find another issue looming: A lawyer has contacted Hugh to attempt to garnish Doug's wages. It seems that his ex-wife wants to collect the alimony that she is due.
The problem here isn't so much the alimony (though the source for this is certainly in question), but it is definitely a surprise that Doug had an ex-wife. So it's time to act on the problem. Neighbors Nina and Jim are in the business of raising alpacas, and so it's off to the lawyer they go to run a scam to sell one of these alpacas.
Amazingly, they manage to dish off a non-breeding alpaca named Hercules for a whopping $120 thousand, which is enough to keep the lawyer off their backs and make sure the ex-wife won't bother them for a while (perhaps ever again).
As all this is happening, the kids are settling into their new school, which they managed to get into during Operation Education, and little DiDi brings her new boyfriend home. They play the guitar and start kissing, so with mom and dad gone, it looks like trouble. Cael, meanwhile, is showcasing his computer hacking skills by helping some other kids break into the school computer to change grades.
When the episode ends, we see that Ginny has followed Cael all the way back to Eden Falls, and it looks like even more trouble could be on the horizon for the Malloy family.
