Heroes Recap: Chapter Sixteen: Unexpected

Somewhere in the desert, Radioactive Man (Ted) is just looking for a little alone time so he can download some pron, when he realizes that he's in a shack that doesn't even have a phone line. So he's not really sure how he's going to get anything. I'm not even sure how he has power in this place. It's that beat-up. Or beat-down. Take your pick.

That's when he gets a message from Wireless. Do you recall that he's not online? Makes it a little odd that he gets a message from someone, right? When he turns around, there she is, and she can still send messages to his chat window. That's neat and all, but it's not much of a super-power.

Claire-bear is trying to come to terms with the fact that her mom has gone bonkers. Apparently things are bad if you have your mind wiped one too many times by The Haitian, and for whatever reason, HRG didn't think that tinkering about in there might be a problem. Guess it's just his wife after all.

Speaking of HRG and The Haitian, they are meeting with Isaac. Isaac can paint the future, but he doesn't really get the ins-and-outs. For instance, he doesn't know that Peter can pick up other people's powers (he didn't get that Peter could learn to fly, and he didn't know here that he could turn invisible thanks to Claude). Still, for some reason, HRG decides to give Isaac a gun. That's just bizarre.

The other odd couple, Mohinder and Sylar, make a stop in Montana, to meet someone who is apparently really good at hearing. Sylar (posing as Zane) mentions that he's special too, and he gets her to agree to the tests. They all agree to meet in the morning. In the morning, Sylar is acting strangely, but it seems like he has a hangover. Maybe he's hearing a little too well? When they get to the garage, it seems that our new hero has been taken out. Uh-oh.

Hiro manages to pull things together and rescue Ando, by hiding in the luggage compartment of a bus. He even gets shot at, but is able to stop time so that he can evade the bullet. I thought he needed the sword to stop time reliably - but apparently his powers come and go. Maybe I just missed something. We also see Stan Lee pop in for a cameo as the bus driver. That was cool.

Claude continues to beat up on Peter on top of the Deveaux building in the "sink or swim" method of training. Unfortunately Peter isn't really picking up on it, so he's being beaten pretty badly. I think maybe they need to try another method here. That's when they are greeted by HRG and The Haitian, who get a taser into Claude (they were using funky heat-seaking goggles to see him). They try and get Peter too, but Peter shows that he can now control time, courtesy of Hiro, and he stops the taser shot, then throws Claude off the roof and dives off to catch him. The only real problem is if time was stopped, I'm thinking Claude probably wouldn't have fallen. But it's a minor point.
