The Amazing Race Recap: Macau, China
Good Doing Business With You
Oswald and Danny finished strong in Hong Kong, but they had little money. They came up with a scheme where they would take cash from Dustin and Kandice in order to Yield another team: Eric and Danielle.
Leaving in first place, they had to travel 40 miles to mainland China and the city of Macau.
Once there, they had to visit the tallest structure in Macau - the Macau Tower - which rises over 1,100 feet high. There, they would find the second Yield on the race, at which point Oswald and Danny could make good on their deal with the blondes.
For just $45, they agreed to yield Eric and Danielle, and this was where they would do it, because Eric and Danielle were already marked for elimination. Oswald didn't like it, but they neeed the money.
Inside the tower, they discovere that they had to wait another hour for the upper decks to open, and Charla and Mirna were really surprised to see what happened.
At the clue box, teams encountered a Road Block. One member from each team had to step outside fo the tower and walk completely around the rim. Using the world's highest permanent descender, they had to jump off the building and fall 660 feet to the street below!
Kandice, Danny and Charla took the task while their teammates went down the standard way. At the bottom, the next clue instructed them to travel by taxi to Lou Lim leoc Garden.
While the first teams left, Eric and Danielle arrived, ony to find that they had been yielded, and they weren't happy. They explained how sometimes the Yield can backfire, and resolved to somehow get back into the race.
At the garden, teams found a Detour, where they had to choose between Noodle and Dragon.
In Noodle, the team makes their way two miles to the second floor of a building to choose a noodle making station, then they had to use traditional methods to flatten the dough and cut it, making two bundles of noodles.
In Dragon, the team makes their way nearly one mile to a nearby warehouse. Once there, they had to choose a dragonhead and a drum and carry these awkward items 3/4 of a mile through the streets of Macau to a dock and find dragon boats. When they attached their dragonhead to the one boat it matched and handed their drum over to the coxswain, they would receive their next clue.
Oswald and Danny chose Dragon, since it reminded them of a dragon costume that had performed before, while rain started to fall almost as soon as they got into the taxi. To make matters worse, their driver didn't seem to know where he was going. He dropped them at the end of their Detour, not at the beginning, which just made things worse.
Dustin and Kandice and Charla and Mirna went for Noodle, which meant making noodles the old-fashioned way: sitting on a giant piece of bamboo and bouncing and up and down to flatten the dough. After the dough is the right thickness, it then has to be sliced to form the noodles at the correct width. The beauty queens had to go back and do it again before they got it right.
The beauty queens were still able to finish first, which allowed them to get the next clue, instructing them to head to the Pit Stop at Triho de Taipa Pequena 2000.
Eric and Danielle arrived to make noodles and passed Charla and Mirna to arrive on the mat second - but they had to wait out a 30-minute penalty because they had been marked for elimination in the last leg. Oswald and Danny arrived last, but it wasn't in time. They were lucky that it was another non-elimination leg, and now they are marked for the next round.
- Dustin and Kandice are looking quite good - is this the year for a female team?
- Charla and Mirna are still going - can they do it?
- Eric and Danielle still going too, even after the yield.
- Oswald and Danny had karma come and bite them. Hard.
I really like Oswald an Danny, but this leg, and being marked for elimination, really hurt. I hope they can come back, like Eric and Danielle did, but I don't know. They may be running out of steam. I was really impressed by Eric and Danielle, and Dustin and Kandice are looking good too.
