The Sopranos Recap: Remember When

Let me preface this by saying that I have enjoyed The Sopranos. It's a good show, and it's had a decent run. But it's getting a bit long-in-the-tooth, isn't it? What happened to all the action? Sure, we're all getting a bit older, but I'm just itching for some good, old-fashioned whacking. Sure, there was some action across the river in Stage 5, but the last time a significant character was taken out was Vito, who bought it in Cold Stones, which seems like a decade ago.

Anyway, there are two main plot lines here. One is Uncle Junior, who we finally see after a really long time. I don't even remember the last time we saw him. Anyone? The other is that Tony and Paulie take a road trip. Now if that's not the perfect setup for a whacking, I don't know what is.

Uncle Junior is losing it. When he first went in, you could argue that he was doing it so that he wouldn't go to court, and I'd have made a case for you being right. The One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest approach. But the problem with that, as Randle found, if you keep it up too long, you really do lose it. In this case, it seems like Uncle Junior is just a few cards shy of a full deck.

I think he's gone. Entertaining to watch for a few minutes, but I think it's a story arc that has played it's full course. Shock him, strap him to a chair and show him drooling out the side of his mouth while he looks out the window. We really don't need any more.

Meanwhile, Tony and Paulie take a road trip. I'm a bit tired of Paulie. I have been for a while now. I'm sorry about his issues with his mom who isn't his mom and his prostrate and whatever other problems he has. The guy is cheap. We get it. He has all sorts of problems. We get it. He can't shut his mouth. We get it. Whack him already. Come on. You whack Big Pussy, who didn't deserve it, and yet you keep this whiny piece of crap around? Come on. Let's see some action already.
