Lost Recap: D.O.C.

Lost is on the verge of jumping around almost as much as Heroes, but they haven't quite made the jump yet. Usually they focus fairly well, but every once in a while they throw in a curve to set up several story lines, or complete a few (or both). This is one of those episodes that does several things. I'm not quite sure if it works.

First, there is the Girl who isn't Penny, that we first saw in Catch-22. It turns out she's hurt pretty badly (or seems to be), so it's important that they try and help her. On the way to get help, who should turn up but Mikhail. I thought he was dead. Apparently not.

Somewhat surprisingly, he strikes a deal that he can help, and manages to stick around. All he asks is that no one say that they saw him, implying that he doesn't want anyone to know that he's alive. That's an interesting course of action. But they agree, he helps, and then he roots around in the girl's pack and takes off. It seem that he took the phone. Easy come, easy go.

Next up, we have Sun. She is pregnant, and Juliet takes her to the abandoned station that's not as deserted as you might think. Behind a secret wall is another chamber that seems to work just fine. A little beat up, as is everything on the island, but it comes through. Her date of conception was determined to be on the island - or at least that was what Juliet said. I still have my doubts, and think that she may have conceived elsewhere.

Which leads us to the other part of the story, which is interesting because it fills in some gaps. Namely, we find out more about Sun and Jin. We know that Sun comes from a wealthy family, and Jin does not. But apparently along the way, Sun was blackmailed by someone who met her in a park. The woman simply sat down next to her and said "give me some money". Must be a nice life to know that kind of dirt on people.

The final piece of the puzzle is on the way back to camp when our mystery visitor finally comes around. She asks where she is, and Hurley tells her that they are the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. She says that isn't possible. They found the wreckage. There were no survivors. That explains why no one is looking for them. But it certainly opens up all sorts of new questions.
