Oh My God, The Teletubbies Go To War
Leaving Macau, China in first place, beauty queens Dustin and Kandice found that the next leg had them flying more than 7500 miles to the island of Guam, where they would have to drive to Andersen Air Force Base. Because it is an active military installation, an escort had to then drive them to an air traffic control tower, where they could get their next clue. On top of the tower!
At the airport, Dustin and kandice bought tickets on a flight leaving at 9:05am and arriving at 9:50pm, with a connection in Tokyo. Charla and Mirna and Eric and Danielle were able to get on the same flight. So much for the lead. At least the three teams were able to best Oswald and Danny, who arrived frantic to catch the same flight out, but couldn’t do so. They had to settle for a 10:15am departure. To the chagrin of the rest of the teams, however, Oswald and Danny were able to make a tight Tokyo connection to make the same 9:50pm arrival and all the teams were together once again.
Oswald and Danny actually took the lead in guam, only to find out that the military escorts wouldn’t arrive until 7:00am the next day. Once they did, the teams found a Detour, where they could choose between Care Package and Engine Care.
In Care Package, the team makes their way to a warehouse to take part in an Air Force humanitarian relief effort by filling a box with 500 pounds of essential supplies for locals on neighboring islands. Once their box reached 500 pounds of supplies, the teams would board a massive C-17 cargo plane for a one in a lifetime opportunity to experience an official Air Force airdrop exercise. When they returned to the ground the Load Master would hand them their next clue. The task required relatively little physical activity, but the training exercise took roughly thirty minutes to complete.
In Engine Care, the team had to scour a B-52 bomber by choosing an engine pod, with its sail and wing flap, and washing it clean. Once the Senior Air Force Maintenance Officer was satisfied with their job, he would hand them their next clue.
Only Charla and Mirna elected to try the Care Package route, and it could have cost them, but they wanted to take the opportunity to give back. The other teams easily finished cleaning the grimy plane quickly, but you have to give it to Charla and Mirna. I was actually impressed.
The next clue was to head to the U.S. Naval Base Guam, where another escort would drive them to the next marker. The beauty queens, who had finished the cleaning job first, arrived at the base first. There, they found a Roadblock. In the Roadblock, one team member had to take part in a naval search and rescue operation using a GPS unit. After following the coordinates to rescue a downed pilot, they could request extraction and get their next clue.
Dustin had some difficulty, but finished first to put the beauty queens in position to finish first, at the Pit Stop at Fort Soledad, a 19th Century fortification. By finishing first, they each won an all-terrain vehicle. While Dustin had some problems with her GPS, it wasn’t anything compared to Charla, who kept resetting hers, and Danielle, who broke down in tears. Oswald actually didn’t have too many problems, but somehow he and Danny managed to finish in last place, and they were eliminated from the race.
Next up: The finish line!
- Dustin and Kandice are stronger than ever – maybe they can win it all.
- Eric and Danielle are amazingly still in it, after all the conflict.
- Charla and Mirna just can’t be defeated, but can they finish the race?
I was sorry to see Oswald and Danny go, but the pressure seems to have finally beaten them down. While Dustin and Kandice are looking stronger than ever, an all-female team has never won before. I just can’t say who might win it all. Eric and Danielle seem to go counter to the idea that you need a certain peace to do well at the race. I guess we’ll know soon enough!
