Ghost Whisperer Recap: The Prophet
When Melinda first met another person who could see ghosts in The Collector, she was ecstatic. But as she came to know Gabriel, she was a bit less excited, to say the least. Since Gabriel is less interested in helping souls, and more interested in collecting them for his own nefarious purposes (purposes which we have yet to fully discover or understand), she is mostly interested in just getting rid of him. I won't say that she wants to kill him or anything, but she just wants to get him out of her life.
For now, it seems that Gabriel is intent on making sure that Melinda feels like she is losing it, because he seems to be giving her visions that she is going to lose someone close to her. While the signs say that she is going to lose someone she loves, and that would naturally lead to it being Jim, the dreams she is getting from Gabriel are pointing to Delia. However, when Melinda calls Delia to let her know, Delia just gets mad - you know how she feels about ghosts.
We all know that a major network isn't going to off Delia, as that would leave Ned without a mom. As cool as that would be, it just isn't going to happen in prime-time. So perhaps the "loss" of a loved one just means that Delia is going to grow tired of the ghosts and leave. Or maybe we'll find out that Jim has been dead all this time, and he's finally going to move on? I'm not really sure at this point, but it is certainly driving Melinda a bit bonkers, because she can't seem to get rid of Gabriel.
As to the ghost, it seems to want to keep to itself, rather than giving up its secrets.
To make matters worse, the usual go-to guy, Professor Payne, has decided to pack up his things and go on sabbatical. I'm sorry to see him go, because I loved his attitued towards food. I also think he had the hots for Melinda. So perhaps she had a thing for him, and that's going to be the loss we're waiting on, but that would be a cop-out too. I really think that we need a death here.
Throughout the episode, Melinda keeps being exposed to one disaster after another - a capsized ferry, a subway collapse and then a rather spectacular one in the city center, where cars drop from the sky. It turns out that this is a bridge collapse that only she gets to experience. The effect was really cool, but the ghost chooses to remain mum at that point. However, the license plates and the bridge allow Melinda to start putting the pieces together. She tracks down the ferry, the subway collapse and of course the plane crash.
Each of these events killed people that numbered five. The ferry crash killed 311 people (3+1+1=5), the tunnel, 32 (3+2=5), the bridge, 111 and 2 on the ground (1+1+1+2=5) and the plane, 228 passengers and 2 on the ground (230 total, 2=3+0=5). All numbers point to 5. Five signs, five events. Plus, all events point to May 11. Unfortunately, May 11 doesn't add up to 5 (5=1+1 = 7). March 11 would have been better, but still. May 11 is happening soon. One week, in fact. Stay tuned.
